What is a Ductless AC System? And How Does it Work?
Heating and cooling needs differ for every home, space and even individual preferences. Many people who do not have a central air conditioner, or have an area in their home without ductwork, seek comfort solutions that are efficient and not invasive. Often times ductless mini-split systems are excellent options. In this blog we discuss what ductless mini-splits are and how they work.
The Basics
Ductless AC systems are a type of cooling and heating system that does not require ducts to regulate the air. This makes ductless units a good option for homes that lack existing ductwork or are smaller, like townhomes and condos. They are also good options for home renovations or add-ons.
The Technology
Ductless systems are comprised of two units. There is an indoor unit and an outdoor unit. A pipe system transfers air to the outdoor unit (condenser), which contains coolant-filled coils. This process converts the hot air into cool air, which is then returned to the indoor space through the air handler (indoor unit). A single outdoor unit can have as many as 8 indoor air handlers, allowing you to customize the temperature for each room. When a ductless system functions as a heating system, they work in tandem with a heat pump to create the opposite effect.
What steps can I take to reduce humidity?
The key to keeping your home safe and comfortable is testing your humidity levels. If your humidity levels are too high, we recommend improving ventilation in your home. You can improve ventilation by maintaining clean and unobstructed air ducts and vents, changing your filter regularly, and using exhaust fans in the kitchen and bathroom. Regular maintenance is important. Installing a dehumidifier can help rectify high-humidity levels as well.
