Get More From Your Mini-Split: Remote Settings Explained
You’ve upgraded to customized ductless comfort, but are you sure how to use your remote? We understand that reading an entire user manual isn't always appealing (although it's worth keeping handy!). To help you get the most out of your system, here's a quick guide to common mini-split remote settings, what they do, and when to use them.
Controls and symbols vary by manufacturer and model, but most mini-split remotes include several of the following features.
Common Mini-Split Remote Settings
Cool Mode
Cools your space, much like a traditional air conditioner.
Common symbol: Snowflake (❄️)
Heat Mode
Warms your space on mini-split models equipped with heating.
Common symbol: Sun (☀️)
Dry Mode
Helps remove excess moisture from the air, making your space feel more comfortable on humid days.
May reduce the need for additional cooling in some conditions, but it isn't a substitute for Cool mode.
Common symbol: Water droplet (💧)
Fan Mode
Circulates air without actively heating or cooling.
Useful when you want air movement without changing the room temperature.
Common symbol: Fan icon (varies by model)
Auto and Eco Modes
Auto mode allows your system to select heating or cooling operation based on room temperature and your settings.
Eco mode, when available, is designed to help reduce energy consumption.
The two modes aren't necessarily interchangeable, and their functions vary by manufacturer.

Fan Speed
Adjusts how quickly air circulates from the indoor unit.
Often represented by fan bars or a fan symbol with speed indicators.
Usually controlled separately from the temperature setting, so check the display before making adjustments.
Swing
Moves the indoor unit's louvers to help distribute conditioned air throughout the room.
Depending on your model, you may be able to adjust the louvers vertically, horizontally, or both.
